"The first big sip of coffee is so strong and bitter that it makes me cringe, but I know that by the fourth sip it will go down easier. Just like shots! I think."

---(Page 10)

Ha! Never thought about coffee that way before, but it is so true! Especially when I drink it black.

The MC comes stumbling in drunk during the first chapter. I know she is battling some deep issues. This is going to be a heavy read. I loved this authors style in Flat-Out Love, so I'm curious about this book.

Summary:

What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?

Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

*This book is intended for mature audiences due to strong language and sexual content.

Teaser Tuesday: Reign of Blood & Between the Devil and Deep Blue Sea

My Teasers:

Just finished: Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy
"The city was desolate graveyard everywhere I went: a graveyard of people, planes and automobiles. The entire Earth was a graveyard."

How lonely it must be to stare out across the city, and feel like you are looking at a graveyard.

"His eyes were so black they seemed to swallow the gold ring that hugged his iris, like a full solar eclipse in the black holes of his sockets."

This paint such vivid image in my head. I can almost see his creepy, black eyes staring at me. *shudders*

I just finished this one and really enjoyed all the action. The main character is a total badass vampire slayer and she will stop at nothing to find her family. Review should be up in a couple days.

Fixing to Start: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

""It's all right," I said. I waved my free hand like I was shooing a fly. "He always talks like this when he sees one of us. I'm used to it."

River shook his head once, fast. "You should never let yourself get used to someone talking about you like that.""

This is sweet and this River character is making a good point.

"I put my hands on my hips and swayed them a little so Freddie's yellow skirt would move against my legs in an engaging sort of way. Then I realized it was something Sunshine would do, and stopped."

Hahaha, us girls and our flirting ways.

These both are sorta random and fun, but I like them. As soon as I finish the other two books I am reading, this is going to be the next one I pick up. I've been wanting to read this book for a while now and I hope it doesn't let me down. I heard it gets sorta creepy.

"Watching from the shadow of a nearby doorway, Akiva straightened up. All went still and silent around him, and he saw nothing but those teeth, and the girl sorting through them in just the way he knew the old beast sorcerer did."

-- (Page 86) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

OHHH....this sounds creepy. Teeth? What's happening? Is this suppose to be scary?

I am just now starting this book. I am curious to see what happens. Have you read this yet?

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My teaser:
"Keep your voices low," he whispered. "And don't make any loud splashes or sudden movements. The water keeps them at bay, but they'll still hunt us."
--Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer (p. 197)
This is the third and final book in the Nightshade series. The second book was amazing, so it didn't take me long to dive into this book. I'm almost finish with Bloodrose and I'm starting to get nervous about how this series is going to end. (If you're curious, check back soon for my thoughts and a review).

Calla has always welcomed war.

But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is. In this remarkable final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, international bestselling author Andrea Cremer crafts a dynamic novel with twists and turns that will keep you breathless until its final pages.
