Q: How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
A: I wish I could say that I power through because sometimes that is rewarding. Usually if I'm not enjoying a book, I end up trying to read a few more pages, but then my mind starts wander....
And when that happens, I'm doomed for a DNF.
Books I Found Worth the Push:
- The Secret Garden
- Wuthering Heights
- The Good Earth
Books That I Eventually Want to Continue (but are currently DNF):
- A Tale of Two Cities

The classics and I have a love/hate relationship. Some day I will finish all of them, but right now they're all piled on a DNF shelf. I just can't stand the dryness of some of them.

Some are pretty good, but a lot drag on.
Delete*gasp* oh nooo Tale of Two Cities?? It's one of my fave classics... haha. I can totally understand people who DNF it though, and it's weird bc I actually really dislike Dickens' other stuff. First time I read it was for high school English so I had to read it so now I think I love it because I know the whole story and know which areas to push through?
ReplyDeleteI rarely DNF books.. I think a part of me just hopes it'll improve or something but I may skim if it's pretty bad.
Loved A Christmas Carol, that's why I picked up Tale of Two Cities. Need to give another chance soon.
DeleteI don't read many classics outside of school, so I don't DNF them often.

DeleteHa ha yeah that happens! I try not to DNF, but there's been a few... just couldn't do it. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha...sometimes I put them on my maybe later shelf instead of my DNF.
DeleteI always follow through on books in hopes that it'll get better. I'm a bloglovin follower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow :)
DeleteUgh Wuthering Heights would be an exampleof a book that I "powered through" on, disliked, and still can't remember what I read about!
ReplyDeleteOld feedly follower :))
haha...that book has been a while for me. But it was challenging. I picked up becaue one of my favorite movies mentioned
DeleteI try to power through. For some reason it stresses me out to not finish a book :/.
ReplyDelete~Sydney@Pika Pages
I wish I could power through more often.
DeleteI totally DNFed Wuthering Heights.

It was an odd one.
DeleteI used to power through but I no longer have the time and it turned reading into a chore. There are too many books on my tbr pile for me to feel guilty and I'm picky about what I read, so only have 1 DNF so far! I'm not counting the classics I refused to read in high school though as they weren't my choice; Pride & Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird and Shakespeare - never again.

I love to read. But I refused to read a lot in high school too :)
Deletehehe.
I usually am a power through girl myself..although I have learned that if I don't like a book or its not interesting enough to capture me I fall asleep so I know how it feel to have your mind wander to much to pass out..lol
