Top Ten Tuesday: beginning and endings

This meme is hosted by Broke and Bookish.

This week was all about our favorite beginnings and endings.

I'm not really sure if these are my TOP favorite. They're just some of the first few that came to mind and that I really like. I'm sure I've forgot some...

Anyway, here's my Top Ten list for beginning and ending scenes.

Beginnings

---------

“When I stepped out into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home...”

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. Whenever you feel like criticising any one, he told me, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”

"Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy."

“Our story has three parts: a beginning, a middle, and an end. And although this is the way all stories unfold, I still can't believe that ours didn't go on forever."

Endings

---------

(May contain spoilers)

"I'd always welcomed war, but when the last battle ends, what life is left for a warrior?"

“If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay.”

"Be careful with the world, or the next time we meet, it might get ugly"

"But instead I stay where I am and stare up at the moon as well. And for the briefest instant, it almost feels like we're together again.”

“Grace,” I said, very softly. “Say something.” Sam,” she said, and I crushed her to me.”

There you have it! What beginnings and endings did y'all pick?

  2. If I Stay was such a brilliant novel, that ending really got me, especially when Adam said that. Although I wasn't as big a fan of the second book.
