SUMMER LOVIN’ [3]: “LOOK AT ME, I’M SANDRA DEE

To sign up go to Read-a-thon Central.
Hello there, lovely people! Happy Hump Day! How's everyone's Wednesday going? Mine has been good, but busy. I had to take my cat to the vet.

Who is your absolute favorite fictional female? What makes her so awesome?

I have many, many heroines that I love. Honestly, since I just finished reading the Vampire Academy series I chose Rose Hathaway. But really, any girl that has a bit of an attitude, doesn't take any crap, loyal to her friends, and knows how to keep moving without a man glued to her side -- usually has my vote. Another favorites includes Katsa (from Graceling).

So many things that I love about this Strigoi fighting, kicking-butt woman. I love that she is loyal to her friends. I love that she is not afraid of anything, and willing to step in to a fight. She follows her heart and worries what the consequence are afterwards. I love that she can fight better than most--if not all--of her male counterparts. I love how quick witted and somtimes even snarky that she is, yet wild and unpredictable. She is one of my favorite one of my favorites -- I just want to be her. And not just because of her handsome Russian friend (but that doesn't hurt hehe). I could probably gush on and on about how much I love her, but I'll just leave it at she's one of my favorites.

I hope the upcoming movie does not let me down. The girl pictured is the actress that was chosen to play Rose.

Since that choice was pretty standard -- I think most of us agree that Rose is awesome -- I thought I'd also choose another powerful woman that isn't as well known. If you've not read the River of Time series then you are missing out on some great books with powerful and strong women, a bit of time travel, castles, old-timey Italy & couple of hunky knights. Both of the main characters are strong, but I particularly love Lia. She learns archery, doesn't fall head-over-heels for her love interest, and uses basic skills in medicine to help around the castle. She's pretty hardcore and has to deal with a lot throughout the series -- especially her growing attraction to a handsome Knight. Seriously, I could fan girl about this series on and on, because I love it that much. If you've not read it -- you should give it a chance. If you have --- did you love as much as me?

The first in the River of Time series:

Waterfall by

Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives among the romantic hills with their archaelogist parents. Stuck among the rubble of the medieval castles in rural Tuscany, on yet another hot, dusty archaeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds...until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces.

Suddenly Gabi's summer in Italy is much, much more interesting.
